Royal Saskatchewan Museum hosts first ever T-Rex Christmas party

Families enjoyed carols and visited Munchie the T-Rex at the museum’s new Bones and Bells holiday event.

Dozens of families gathered at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum (RSM) for a first of its kind holiday party for the institution.

Attendees were encouraged to wear their best dinosaur themed outfits as RSM hosted a Christmas party with a Tyrannosaurus theme.

Sarah Schafer is the visitor experience supervisor at the RSM. She said dinosaurs and Christmas is a winning combination for children.

“We are really happy to have the party and bring people in so they can celebrate both the season and visit the museum,” Schafer said.

Munchie, the T-Rex mascot from RSM, made a special appearance in a Christmas outfit. Families were able to mingle and take pictures with Munchie.

Christmas carols were then led by children’s entertainer, Sharon Gudereit.

“A lot of the kids were dressed in dinosaur shirts and costumes. It was a great Christmas party and a way to be all together and share in the festivities of music,” Gudereit said.

Megan Smith said she and her family are regular visitors to the RSM, and the party was another opportunity to celebrate prehistoric history.

“This time it’s Christmas and we are happy to come and share some songs with Munchy, and sing our favorite song, ‘Scotty,’” said Smith.

The RSM will be open throughout the holiday season, with the exception of Dec. 25 and 26, and Jan. 1, 2026.
