RM of Montmartre fined $30K for worker injury

The RM of Montmartre pleaded guilty to violating The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020.

The RM of Montmartre No. 126 has been fined $30,000 for a workplace safety violation.

According to the province, the charges stem from when a worker was seriously injured by the explosive separation of a tire and rim while he was reinflating the tire.

The incident happened in Montmartre on Aug. 28, 2023.

On May 26, 2026, the RM of Montmartre pleaded guilty to one violation of The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020, according to a Wednesday news release.

The company was charged with failing to provide the worker with a suitable cage or other restraining device meant to contain flying parts in the event of a split-rim assembly/locking ring assembly failure or tire rupture, resulting in as serious injury of a worker.

The court imposed a $21,428.57 fine plus a $8,571.43 victim surcharge, totalling $30,000.

In addition to the fine, the employer also made a $30,000 non-tax-deductible donation to the Village of Montrmartre Fire Department for equipment upgrades.

“The incident will be publicized through local media describing the rural municipality’s responsibility, the lessons learned, and remedial steps taken,” read the release.
