Florist Tamey Lau has been a fixture in the Mile End for decades. Her business, Dragon Flowers, features a colourful storefront. There are bird cages and beautiful blooms often displayed on her tricycle. However, on Wednesday, she arrived at the store to find flowers on the ground, her trike gone. “In this moment, I’m crying,” says Lau. “I feel very sad… Very depressed.” Lau says the black Fiori tricycle was stolen between 3 and 4 in the morning. It was locked outside the store on Saint Laurent Boulevard near Bernard Avenue. “They [were] very professional. I don’t know how they did it,” she said of the theft. She’s had the trike for 15 years. The florist has chronic foot and knee problems, so she relies on the wheels to get around. It has an electric battery and a large basket on the back. Without it, Lau’s also had to stop making deliveries. She says “it’s very complicated” to get another company to deliver flowers for her and expensive. Neighbours are sharing photos of the trike online with the hopes of recovering it. Her daughter has offered to buy her a new one, but Lau says it would not have the same meaning as her 15-year-old ride. “I want my bicycle,” she said. The theft has not been reported to police.
