The Saskatchewan Roughriders have won back-to-back games, defeating the Ottawa RedBlacks in dominating fashion, 42-20, to improve to 6-2 on the season. After scoring three points in the first quarter, Saskatchewan’s offense got rolling with 10 points in the second quarter. In that second quarter, Harris had 15 pass attempts – 10 of them to KeeSean Johnson. Harris and Johnson connected on Saskatchewan’s first touchdown on the night to jump the Riders to a 10-3 lead. With Saskatchewan missing its top two receivers, Kian Schaffer-Baker and Samuel Emilus, Johnson stepped up with eight catches for 107 yards and a touchdown in the first half as the Riders took a 13-6 lead into halftime. Trying to earn their first win of 2026, the RedBlacks came out of the halftime break desperate. RedBlacks quarterback Jake Maier capped a short scoring drive with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Justin Hardy, then connected on the ensuing two-point conversion to give Ottawa a 14-13 lead. From there, Saskatchewan scored 22 unanswered points. Starting with receiver Dylan Djete on a catch and run into the endzone for the Riders’ second major of the game. Then, in the fourth quarter, short-yardage specialist Tommy Stevens took over. On the very first play of the final frame, Stevens punched it in from the one-yard-line to get the Riders out 28-14. The Riders’ defence then recorded its first interception of the game when defensive back Jonathan Edouard picked off Maier. The pick was the third by a Roughrider this season, but the first by a defensive back. Saskatchewan took full advantage of the turnover, driving 86 yards on just five plays. Stevens scored his second touchdown to cap off the drive with a six-yard touchdown run. Ottawa would add a late touchdown but missed the extra point attempt to make the score 35-20. One final Stevens’ touchdown with just over one minute left in the game gave him a third touchdown for a second-straight week, sealing the victory. Stevens leads the CFL in touchdowns with 11. Harris finished the game 30/38 passing for 401 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. His most targeted receiver was KeeSean Johnson who made 11 receptions on 14 targets for 133 yards and a caught one touchdown. Johnny Johnson III, D’Sean Mimbs and Dylan Djete had career nights beside him. Johnson III surpassed 100 receiving yards for the first time in his career on seven catches. Mimbs had 84 yards on six catches. Djete recorded four catches for 53 yards and his first CFL touchdown. For Ottawa, Maier had 31 completions on 43 attempts for 339 yards through the air, two touchdowns and one interception. Riders’ kicker Alex Hale was perfect on field goal attempts, going 2/2. However, he did not attempt a field goal longer than 35 yards. He was also 3/3 on extra points attempts. The win also ties Saskatchewan atop the CFL’s West Division standings – for now – with 12 points. Ottawa remains last in the East sitting at 0-8. Saskatchewan is next in action Saturday Aug. 15 on the road in Hamilton for a tilt with the Ti-Cats. Harris reaches 40,000 career passing yards Saskatchewan Roughriders quarterback Trevor Harris has thrown for over 40,000 yards in his career. His 40,352 career passing yards rank 12th all-time in CFL history. He needs 182 more yard to catch former Alouette – and Canadian Football Hall of Famer – Tracy Ham, who had 40,534. “I’m not usually into the numbers thing,” Harris said following the win. “But when Mace did this after the game and said there’s only been 12 to do it, for me to just brush it off would be rude.” “It’s incredible,” head coach Corey Mace added about Harris’ feat. “There’s only 12 people to do that. And true Trevor fashion, he took that football and was looking to give away offensive player of the game ball. I said, ‘no, buddy, that’s your ball.” The 40-year-old pivot from Waldo, Ohio needed just 49 yards to reach the career mark going into Friday’s game against the Ottawa RedBlacks. A 22-yard pass to D’Sean Mimbs in the first quarter pushed Harris across the 40k milestone. Harris began his Canadian Football League (CFL) career in 2012 with the Toronto Argonauts. Now in his 14th year, he has played for the Argos, RedBlacks, Edmonton Elks, Montreal Alouettes and Roughriders. In four seasons with Saskatchewan, he has 11,341 passing yards – sixth in franchise history. “I just trying to stay focused on the small things,” said Harris. “I’m really thankful I get to be the quarterback of this organization. I never, ever, ever take it for granted.” “To join the 40k club’s pretty cool. I think it just means maybe I’m getting a little older, though,” he joked. Harris ranks second among active quarterbacks in career passing yards. Bo Levi Mitchell leads active quarterbacks with 45,426 yards, which ranks eighth all-time. Of non-active quarterbacks with 40,000 or more passing yards, 10 of the 11 are in the CFHOF.
