Ahead of the 61st Labour Day Classic in Regina, Pierre Poilievre, leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, was seen in the tailgating area. As the Riders were set to to take on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the latest chapter of one of the CFL’s most significant rivalries, Poilievre was spotted wearing the green and white. “It’s great to be in Saskatchewan,” he said. “My mother and my father are from Saskatchewan, so it feels like I’m coming home in a certain sense, even though I’m from Calgary. But it’s a beautiful atmosphere and we hope everybody can enjoy the weekend and some wonderful sporting events.” According to the Government of Canada, Ottawa will impose counter tariffs on United States goods, starting on Sept. 8 at 12:01 a.m. Poilievre was asked about this on Sunday. “We need to fight for tariff free trade. I think it’s time that Mr. [Mark] Carney tells Canadians what the counter-tariffs will cost them in higher food prices, higher costs for appliances, higher costs for building homes,” he said. “We’re in a situation where Canadians cannot afford to pay more Liberal taxes. Canadians are losing their homes, their jobs, because of disastrous Liberal policies. We need now to fight to save Canadians money and save Canadians jobs, and that’s what Conservatives are doing.”
