Moose Jaw Police are advising the public to protect themselves from fraud as a STARS Lottery phone scam circulates around the city.
According to police, someone who claims to represent STARS Air ambulance will call people to tell them they won a new vehicle or a cash prize and will then try to convince them to send money to claim their prize.
The service reminds residents to keep in mind that you’ll never be asked to send money to claim a lottery prize.
If someone asks for a payment, hang up the phone immediately.
Sometimes the fraudster will demand payment via gift cards, so police advise people to make sure they never provide the scammer with access codes.
Officers also remind people to never provide personal information over the phone.
If you or someone you know has fallen victim to a scam, residents are encouraged to contact Moose Jaw Police, Moose Jaw Crime Stoppers or go online to p3tips.com.
