After sinking a 135-yard hole-in-one over the weekend, Regina’s Taylor Carter launched his club in the air in triumph. He wasn’t the only one though, his nephew and caddy Ashton joined in on the celebrations in Medicine Hat at the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games. “I asked my nephew what club I should use, and he said nine iron. And after I grabbed it and lined up, I felt really confident with the club and I just went for it,” said Carter. According to Carter’s mother Sharlene, that isn’t the first time he’s accomplished the very rare feat of a hole in one. “He was in Regent Park, and he had plastic clubs because that’s how Taylor started his little golf career. And he ended up with a hole-in-one on a par three when he was four years old,” she said. Accomplishing such a feat at a young age, one might say Carter was destined for success. And the now 33-year-old says the clip of the shot has gone viral on the internet. “It’s been really insane to see that many people commenting and people going bananas as much as I did. And seeing TSN and Special Olympics Canada post it,” Carter said. Executive director of Special Olympics Saskatchewan Rhae-Ann Holoien told CTV News that she had never seen a shot of that magnitude completed on a national stage. “In the video you see Taylor celebrating, and you can hear in the background, that was absolutely all the fans cheering from Special Olympics Saskatchewan about the hole in one as well,” she said. “Then not only did he get a hole-in-one, which is an incredible achievement, he brings home the gold medal.” Including Carter’s gold, Saskatchewan won a total of 64 medals at the games. Carter says bringing home the gold was the icing on the cake after his viral shot.
