Fourth accused in Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation quadruple homicide appears in court

RCMP charged Lauren Hotomani with accessory after the fact to murder one year after a quadruple homicide. Sierra D’Souza Butts reports.

A man charged in connection with a quadruple homicide on Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation in 2025 made his first appearance at Fort Qu’Appelle Provincial Court on Thursday.

Lauren Elvis Hotomani, 67, was arrested by Saskatchewan RCMP along with the File Hills First Nations Police Service, on Wednesday.

Hotomani is charged with one count of accessory after the fact to murder. He was denied release from police custody, and was ordered by the court to not contact the Crown witnesses, along with the three other people accused for the homicides.

On Feb. 4, 2025, File Hills First Nations Police Service received a report of sudden deaths at a residence on Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation. Officers responded and found the bodies of four people inside the home.

The Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crimes Branch tool control of the investigation.

The deaths of Tracey Hotomani, Sheldon Quewezance, Shauna Fay and Terry Jack were later deemed homicides.

A 15-year-old male youth and 18-year-old Darrius Racette were arrested on Feb. 18, 2025, in connection with the homicides. All three of the accused are facing four counts of first-degree murder.

A 17-year-old male youth was arrested on Dec. 10, 2025.

Hotomani will make his next court appearance on Feb. 17th in Indian Head.

The three other accused continue to make their way through the court process.
