Saskatchewan residents are now able to get their fall flu and COVID-19 shots. As of Tuesday, Oct. 13, those aged six months and older can get their seasonal shots at Saskatchewan Health Authority immunization clinics, participating pharmacies and even some physician and nurse practitioner offices. “Taking the time to get immunized is an important step in protecting your health and the health of those around you,” Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill said in a news release. “I encourage everyone to stay up to date on their immunizations and take this important step to protect themselves and their communities.” The SHA said influenza and COVID-19 typically spread from fall to early spring, adding that getting vaccinated early is a safe and effective way to stay healthy and protected throughout the season. Vaccination appointments can be booked online at 4flu.ca or by calling 1-833-727-5829. The appointment line will be staffed Monday-Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The SHA says the influenza and COVID-19 vaccines can both be safely received in the same visit. 4flu.ca has a list of available walk-in clinics. Those who have a preferred pharmacy or clinic are advised to contact them to verify if they are offering flu or COVID-19 vaccines or immunization pharmacy maps. Although the SHA recommends vaccinations for everyone, getting your seasonal shots is even more vital for certain groups, such as: “For people 65 years of age and older, an enhanced influenza vaccine is available to help create a stronger immune response,” said the health authority. “Influenza vaccination is also particularly important for children six months to four years of age, who are at increased risk of serious illness and complications from influenza.” People can find more information about influenza and COVID-19 symptoms at HealthLine811 or 4flu.ca
