Worker dies after tire ruptures at Kanata auto shop: Ottawa police

An employee of a Kanata auto shop has died after a tire ruptured in a mechanical bay over the weekend.

Ottawa police say first responders were called to a business on Edgewater Street on Saturday at approximately 1:40 p.m.

Paramedics say the worker suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital in critical condition.

The man in his early 20s was later pronounced dead in hospital. Police add the incident is not believed to be suspicious.

“Our thoughts are with the young man’s family, friends and colleagues,” Ottawa police said in an email.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour says it was notified of a workplace fatality at Kanata Wheels and was investigating the incident.

Police say they are supporting the Ministry of Labour with the investigation.
