The first roof trusses have been put into place on the new event centre at Lansdowne Park as work continues on the arena in the Glebe. In October, construction crews began to install the event centre’s steel structure above the concrete base and the concourse. In an update on the Lansdowne 2.0 project, the city says the first roof trusses were installed in October, and work will continue in November to install the steel trusses. “Each truss is 55 metres long and is delivered to site in three sections,” the city said. “The full trusses are assembled on site and then hoisted into place using a mobile crane. This process will continue across the event centre as the structure progresses around the concourse.” Photos released by the city showed the roof trusses in place on the south side of the arena. “Work will continue in November to advance the steel structure of the event centre. the city said. “As the frame continues to take shape around the concourse, roof trusses will be installed in completed sections.” The city says the excavation for the loading dock is “nearly complete” and will allow for foundation work to begin “soon in the final quadrant of the event centre.” Working on weekends Construction crews will be working weekends on the new event centre this month. The city says crews may be working on-site during permitted hours under the City of Ottawa’s Noise Bylaw, which permits work between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Saturday and between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Sunday. “As construction continues, you can expect intermittent periods of trucks travelling to and from the site,” the city said. “These vehicles will continue to use the hauling road behind the South Side Stands to access Bank Street via Queen Elizabeth Place and Wilton Crescent.” The $418.8 million Lansdowne 2.0 project includes the new event centre, a new north side stands at TD Place and two residential towers with 770 units. The new event centre will have 5,850 seats, with capacity of 6,600 for hockey and up to 7,000 people for concerts. Construction on the project began last December. The new arena is scheduled to be completed in 2028.
