A 29-year-old is facing charges after police in Sault Ste. Marie found a parked vehicle with its motor running, the driver sleeping and a child in the back seat.
The incident took place Monday evening at 8:30 p.m. when 911 received a traffic complaint about a vehicle on Fifth Avenue.
“Upon arrival, officers located a running vehicle parked on the left side of the road with the driver asleep inside and a child in the back seat,” police said in a news release Tuesday.
Shook them awake
“After several unsuccessful attempts to wake the accused, officers shook them awake and soon developed grounds to believe their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs. They were arrested.”
A blood sample and a screening by a drug recognition expert led police to conclude the suspect was impaired by drugs.
Charged include impaired driving offences and dangerous driving.
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court May 12.
