Sudbury Market opens at its new indoor home

Sudbury Market moves into its new indoor home Saturday saw the grand opening of the Sudbury Market’s new indoor location at the Elm Place Mall downtown. CTV News was there.

Saturday morning marked the grand opening of the Sudbury Market’s new indoor farmers market location at the Elm Place Mall in the city’s downtown core.

The market serves as a year-round destination for local growers, artisans, bakers and makers.

“We have a minimum of 60 to 70 vendors every week,” said the market manager Jane Lang.

“We have a variety for everybody here.”

The new 15,000-square-foot space is the former site of Designer Depot – which closed during the pandemic. It is located right at the mall’s main Elm Street entrance and also boasts its own entryway.

The space has been renovated with new lighting and updated washrooms to allow for a better shopping experience. The mall has also enhanced its on-site security to make sure everyone feels both safe and welcomed.

“In the Elm Place Mall, what a turnout. As of 9 a.m. this morning everyone just seems so excited to be indoors, out of the cold, under this new lighting – brand new facility,” said Kyla Marcus, the managing director of the Downtown Sudbury BIA, at the first market’s opening.

“It is really exciting and really cool.”

The market is also offering three hours of free parking at the mall, shoppers just need to bring their ticket to the market to have their parking validated.

“It is just hoping today,” said Lang, just before 10 a.m.

“We have had already close to 500 people in, which is amazing.”

The market has also made efforts to shape itself as a family excursion, the new site offers the Little Kickers’ Kids Corner – a dedicated space to entertain children with a variety of activities and crafts to keep children engaged while their families shop around the market.

Further, the market has partnered with Imagine Cinemas in the mall to offer $3 matinee movies during the market each Saturday.

The indoor market with run every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its new location until the end of May.
