A 24-year-old man faces a series of charges after police in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., say officers responded to two separate 911 calls within a 12 hour span on Wednesday. Sault police said the first incident unfolded around 9 a.m. on July 22 in the 0 100 block of Hynes Street, when 911 operators received a report of an assault. Officers attended the scene to investigate. “An investigation revealed the accused threw an object at a victim and verbally threatened to harm them,” the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release. No physical injuries were reported as a result of this encounter. “The victim and accused are known to one another,” police said. Following that morning incident, the man was taken into custody and charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and failing to comply with a probation order. He was subsequently released on an undertaking, a form of release with conditions set by police. Second 911 call prompts fresh arrest Just under 12 hours later, at approximately 9 p.m., 911 operators received another call regarding the same individual. Police said operators received “a report of the accused threatening to harm the victim again.” Officers were dispatched once more to the scene, where they located and arrested the man for a second time that day. The new charges included another count of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and another count of failing to comply with a probation order. In addition, the accused was charged with failing to comply with the undertaking he had received earlier in the day following his release. Unlike the first arrest, the man was not released a second time. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
