Missing plate leads to impaired charge for northern Ont. driver

A 40-year-old man from Noelville faces impaired driving charges following a traffic stop in French River last week.

Ontario Provincial Police say the stop occurred on Amateewakea River Road at about 12:40 p.m. on April 10.

OPP said police conducted the traffic stop after observing that the vehicle was failing to display two plates.

“The driver was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle, then transported to the OPP detachment for further testing,” police said in a news release Monday.

Charges, penalties

As a result of the investigation, the motorist was charged with impaired driving, driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor and failing to display two plates while driving a motor vehicle.

In addition to the charges, the man’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle with the missing plate was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Sudbury on May 20 to answer the charges.
