Hwy. 69 traffic complaint leads to impaired driving, dangerous operation charges on Boxing Day

Festive RIDE program kicks off in Sudbury Families of three teens who were killed by an impaired driver joined the launch of the Festive RIDE campaign in Sudbury on Thursday.

Provincial police have charged a 50-year-old Sudbury man after another motorist reported a possible impaired driver on Boxing Day.

Members of the Nipissing West Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment responded to a call about a potentially impaired driver travelling south on Highway 69 from Greater Sudbury at about 3:10 p.m. on Dec. 26.

“The vehicle was located by police at which time the driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to the OPP detachment for further testing,” police said in a news release.

The driver faces two impaired driving charges along with a charge for dangerous operation of a vehicle.

In addition to the charges, the accused also had their licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle involved was impounded by police for seven days at the owner’s expense.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 15 to answer the charges.

OPP reminded the public to “make the call,” and dial 911 if they see a possible impaired driver on our roadways, waterways, or trails.

“Impaired driving never ends well,” said police.

“Please plan a way to get home safely.”
