Firearm, $106K in drugs seized on Fort William First Nation

Four people have been charged with 45 offences following a drug trafficking investigation on Fort William First Nation, including two residents of the Greater Toronto Area.

The investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police’s guns and gangs enforcement team began in the fall. In cooperation with the Anishinabek Police Service, police initiated an intelligence-led investigation into alleged drug trafficking activity in Fort William First Nation.

The investigation culminated with the execution of a search warrant Nov. 25 on Fort William First Nation.

Items seized include a loaded automatic firearm and drugs believed to be 250 grams of cocaine, 195 grams of fentanyl and 115 oxycodone tablets. Cellphones were also seized along with $6,450 in cash.

“The estimated street value of the drugs seized is over $106,000,” police said in a news release Monday.

A 34-year-old and a 30-year-old from Fort William First Nation, a 26-year-old from Toronto and a 22-year-old from Scarborough have been charged with 45 offences related to weapons and drug trafficking.

The accused were remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay at a later date.
