One person was taken to hospital July 19 with serious injuries after a pickup truck crashed on St. Joseph Island near Sault Ste. Marie. Ontario Provincial Police responded around 8:10 p.m., along with paramedics and fire services. The single-vehicle rollover took place on Highway 548 between A Line Road and Hilton Road. “Upon arrival, emergency crews located a grey pickup truck resting on its side in the ditch,” the OPP said in a July 20 news release. “Police spoke with the driver, while the passenger was transported to the North Shore Health Network in Richards Landing and was later transferred to Sault Area Hospital with serious injuries.” Driver had been drinking, police say Officers at the scene determined that the driver had been drinking alcohol and he was taken to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service detachment for further testing. The 22-year-old from Richards Landing was charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving causing bodily harm. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Sept. 3. “The OPP reminds motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive,” police said. “Report impaired drivers.
