A 37-year-old suspect has been charged in connection with a vicious attack last September in Sault Ste. Marie.

Police were called last Sept. 7 to an Albert Street residence and discovered a victim with profound injuries.

“Investigation revealed the accused had assaulted the victim, who is known to them, with a hammer and a metal pipe, causing severe physical injuries,” police said in a news release Thursday.

“The victim was transported to hospital and an arrest warrant was obtained for the accused.”

The 37-year-old has been wanted since then. Sault police were investigating another matter on Albert Street early Thursday when they “located the accused inside the residence,” police said in a news release.

The accused is charged with aggravated assault and is being held pending a bail hearing.
