A man from Quebec’s Chaudière-Appalaches region is $5 million richer after his regular end-of-week lottery purchase paid off in a big way. Alexandre Patoine said he likes to buy a few tickets at the end of his work week. This time, he scratched his “$5 million extrême” ticket right at the counter of the store where he bought it and couldn’t believe what he saw. The number 37 in the final game matched the $5,000,000 jackpot. He had the ticket validated on the spot to make sure it was real. “It sounded good!” he said, describing the noise the terminal made when it confirmed his win. Patoine didn’t waste any time calling his partner and family to share the news and said they were just as excited as he was. In his 30s, he said he isn’t planning to quit his job, but he wants to use the windfall to treat his loved ones. The winning ticket was sold at a convenience store in Sainte-Marie. The retailer will take a 1 per cent commission on the sale, which is $50,000.
