After Quebec City resident Guy Perreault discovered he had won the $1 million Extra top prize for the June 24 lottery draw, he did what came naturally: he went straight to his workplace to share the news and retire. The new millionaire won the prize with a free play on which he added an Extra number. He said he told the cashier, “Always with Extra, please!” Perreault explained that he initially thought he had won $100,000, but after looking closer, he realized he had actually won the top prize. Perreault said his former boss was thrilled for him, adding that he now hopes to enjoy a quiet retirement. The winning ticket was purchased at the Marché Express, located in the Capitale-Nationale region. The retailer will receive a one per cent commission totalling $10,000. June has been a lucky month for the Quebec City region as resident Maude Simard also won $1 million with a Lotto 6/49 ticket purchased at Dépanneur Ferland. Last year, Loto-Québec awarded a record $1.9 billion in prizes, creating 111 millionaires across Quebec and paying out more than 20 lifetime annuities.
