Show Canada, an entertainment and engineering company, has been around since 1999. Since then, they’ve worked on many large-scale projects, including the Vancouver and Sochi Olympics. This year, their work will be travelling across the globe for Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour. The project began last April and took a team of approximately 50 people to create. Before the stage was shipped off to New Zealand, where the tour began in January, the popstar visited the company’s Laval headquarters. Chief Operating Officer, Martin Lévesque, says his team was excited by the visit. “He spent a day with us here in the shop with all of our workers,” he said. “It was a big thing for everyone who had been kind of working on this so hard… to finally have Ed Sheeran in our factory, using the actual equipment that we’ve designed and engineered and built, it was a huge thing.” With many other international projects in the works, Lévesque says his team is proof that Quebec talent can deliver on the global stage. “I think over the years we’ve developed an expertise that only exists in Quebec, and I think a lot of that goes back to Cirque du Soleil,” he said. “We were kind of born at the same time as Cirque. We kind of grew with them. We had no choice but to adapt to what Cirque was doing.” Sheeran’s tour will be making a stop in Canada this August, but Quebec fans will have to head to Toronto’s Rogers Centre to see the stage in person. As of now, there are no Montreal dates scheduled.
