It’s the first day of spring, and to celebrate, Montrealers are being welcomed with...snow. Friday is set to bring snowfall amounts of up to two centimetres per hour in the Greater Montreal area, as well as the Montérégie, Laurentians, Eastern Townships and Outaouais, according to a special weather statement by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). The weather agency had issued a warning for potentially difficult travel conditions until Friday at 5 p.m., but by 3:15 p.m., the weather statement ended. In Montreal, the mercury could hit a low of -3 degrees Celsius on Friday night, though northeasterly winds are expected to make it feel like -8. Partly cloudy skies are forecast to clear by Saturday morning. The afternoon is set to bring a high of 3 degrees Celsius with mainly sunny skies. However, snow is expected to return on Saturday night. Roughly three centimetres could fall over the Island of Montreal starting at 11 p.m., as temperatures dip to an overnight low of -3 degrees Celsius. Another six centimetres is expected on Sunday with a daytime high of -1 degrees Celsius. The temperature could drop to a low of -4 degrees Celsius on Sunday night before moving to a high of -1 degrees Celsius on Monday. An additional three centimetres of snow is also expected to start next week.
