Black History Month in Montreal, featuring a vast array of activities celebrating the city’s Black communities, will begin next week. To celebrate the 35th edition of the Round Table on Black History Month, the 100th anniversary of BHM in Quebec, and 10th anniversary of the official logo, organizers have scheduled events, including music, theatre, dance lessons, poetry, and more. The theme of this year’s month is “Together, let’s raise our voices.” “As the struggle for equality continues and narratives become harder to parse, BHM remains a force for memory, celebration, and collective mobilization—even well after February is over,” a news release on the month says. Artist, activist and radio host Dice B. was chosen as the French-speaking spokesperson, and Black Community Initiatives at the Disabled Women’s Network of Canada director Tamara Angeline Medford-Williams will be the anglophone spokesperson. “This role is more than just a celebration of a single month—it is an opportunity to honour our people, amplify our stories, and celebrate the contributions of Black, African, and Caribbean communities while fostering unity, understanding, and collective pride," said Medford-Williams.
