The Montreal police (SPVM) arson squad is investigating after two SUVs were torched in separate residences within an hour of each other overnight. The first call came in around 1 a.m. about a vehicle on fire on Valcourt Street near Cap-Chat Street in the Saint-Léonard borough. When police arrived on scene, Montreal fire department (SIM) crews had the blaze under control. Incendiary materials were found on the scene, the SPVM said. The vehicle was a total loss and towed for analysis. There have been no arrests, and no one was injured. No damage was done to the residence. Around 40 minutes later and 15 kilometres away, firefighters were again on the scene at a private residence on St. Cyr Avenue near Notre-Dame Street in Montreal East as another SUV was burning. Incendiary material was again found on the scene, and the vehicle was a total loss. There was no damage to the residence, and no one was injured. No arrests have been made. The arson squad is investigating both fires. The SPVM could not confirm on Sunday morning whether the two fires are connected.
