Telus customers in Quebec’s Montérégie region and parts of Montreal’s South Shore may not be able to reach 911 as the telecommunications company experiences an ongoing outage on Wednesday. A “degradation of wireless services for multiple communities in Quebec” that began around 2 p.m. is affecting 911, text, data, and voice service, according to a message on the Telus website. Impacted areas include Châteauguay, Mercier, Léry, Kahnawake, Saint-Isidore-de-Laprairie, Sainte-Martine, Saint-Michel, Saint-Rémi, Le Dépôt, and parts of Sainte-Catherine and Saint-Constant. “You may not be able to reach 911 from your mobile phone. If you need emergency help, call from a landline,” the telecommunications company wrote on its website. A damaged cable is causing the outage, and service technicians are on their way to the site to repair it, according to the company. Bell customers in Châteauguay may also be experiencing a disruption of its mobility services, the company announced on social media. However, it did not specify which services were impacted. “We are working to restore service as quickly as possible and expect it to be restored overnight,” the company wrote. “In the meantime, we recommend that customers enable Wi-Fi Calling where possible.”
