Have you ever dreamed of owning your own private island? There’s one available for $50,000 in Laval. “It’s not every day that I have to list an Island, especially in Laval,” said Sacha De Santis, the real estate broker selling the property, officially named Ile-Drouin. There are compromises to be made. You won’t find the white sand beaches you have in your mind’s eye. Instead, the 10-thousand-square-foot spit of land between Ile-Bizard and Ile-Verte features mostly rocks and shrubs. The exact size of the island depends on the time of year. “The island, you know, sometimes the water is high, sometimes it’s low, so it can change, you know, the island itself,” De Santis said. Specific buyer Building on the island is a bit of a non-starter. “The buyer must conduct all necessary verifications with the City of Laval and any other competent authority to confirm the feasibility, compliance, and conditions applicable to the realization of their project,” reads a warning on the online listing. De Santis is looking for a very specific kind of buyer. “I think this listing would be great for someone who owns a waterfront, like one of the neighbours,” he said. “One that’s worth two or three million already and wants to add an island to their home, you know, to get value.” “Nobody has an island,” he added. The current owners bought the island for $13,000 in 2023 and are now looking to flip it for a 285 per cent profit, just three years later. The official city valuation for the island is just $400. “We already have a couple of buyers interested,” De Santis said. “I received three or four offers already, with different prices and different conditions. So we are looking at that right now.”
