Two people were seriously injured Thursday in a head-on collision on Highway 20 in Saint-Hyacinthe, Que. According to initial reports from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the driver travelling westbound is believed to have lost control of his vehicle and crossed into the opposite lane before colliding with an oncoming vehicle, which had four occupants inside. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 5:15 p.m. Following the collision, two of the occupants – a man in his 40s and a minor – were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Later that evening, SQ spokesperson Élizabeth Marquis-Guy said that the two injured people were “out of danger.” The driver of the first vehicle had also been taken to hospital with serious injuries. “As he may have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident, steps are being taken to obtain blood samples,” said Marquis-Guy.
