Two English schools in Laval, north of Montreal, will remain open until at least next year, according to the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board. Officials confirmed Tuesday night that they would be delaying their decision to potentially shutter Our Lady of Peace Elementary School and Phoenix Alternative School. The closures would mean job cuts, as well as displacing the enrolled children to other schools. Phoenix Alternative School is a small high school of about 50 students who have been shown to have difficulties in a regular stream. The school board says it is looking to relocate it to a dedicated space within Laval Senior Academy, another high school. Consultations on the buildings’ futures are set to continue.
