London sportscaster and Knights commentator dies at 89

Legendary London sports broadcaster Pete James has died at the age of 88. CTV’s Sean Irvine reports.

Former CFPL sportscaster Pete James has died.

James started his career in St. Catharines before moving to London, where he spent 25 years as sports director at CFPL.

He later became the colour commentator for the London Knights until his retirement in 2019.

A banner honouring James, hangs from the rafters of Canada Life Place, he is also honoured on the Western Football Wall of Champions and was inducted into the London Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.

James is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carmen, his kids Nicole and Joe, and grandchildren Luca and Olivia. He was 89 years old.

James’ funeral will be held on Feb. 13.
