House struck by gunfire on Oneida Nation of the Thames

Ontario Provincial Police and Oneida Nation of the Thames Police are investigating after a residence was struck by gunfire Sunday. CTV's Brent Lale reports.

Ontario Provincial Police and Oneida Nation of the Thames Police are investigating after a house was struck by gunfire Sunday night.

On Monday morning, OPP detectives and Forensic Identification Services were on scene at a home on Bodkin Road, just south of Elijah Rd in Southwold Township.

In a notice to residents on the First Nation, Oneida Police said at 10:45 p.m. on Sunday they had “initiated a weapons investigation which revealed that a firearm was discharged towards a residence.”

Police said no injuries were reported because of the shooting.

When CTV arrived on scene, there were two holes visible in the siding of the home, however it’s unclear whether it was the result of the gunfire.

Police added that after an initial investigation “it is determined that there is no threat to public safety, and it is believed to be an isolated incident.”

Police are also asking residents to avoid the area on Bodkin Road while the investigation is ongoing.
