Kitchener robbery involving fake police officers followed previous fraud attempts: WRPS

The Waterloo Regional Police Service are continuing to investigate a robbery and fraud involving suspects posing as police officers in Kitchener, where a prior fraud targeted the same victims.

On May 26 around 1:50 p.m., police responded to a fraud at a home near Arrowhead Crescent, where two suspects posed as police officers investigating a previously reported fraud.

Police say they were contacted by the victims on May 12, where they were told about a roofing scam that occurred on May 9 and 11, where individuals operating under the name ‘The Contract Doctor’ said they needed urgent roofing repairs.

The victims were eventually persuaded to pay a “significant” amount of cash for the repairs, which were not completed as sections of the roof were already removed.

Police say further attempts to contact the roofers were unsuccessful, which led to two different suspects posing as out-of-region officers in order defraud the victims themselves.

No arrests have been made as the investigation remains ongoing.
