Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity - Community, Family, Home & You

June 23 - September 30

You are the key – 200 donors in 100 days can bring 11 families home. The Greater Victoria community (friends, neighbours, social and business networks) is invited to come together to help give eleven local families a hand-up into stable, affordable homeownership. Habitat for Humanity's goal is to collectively raise $200,000 between June 23rd – September 30th to directly fund Habitat Victoria’s active build projects. Construction has now started on the ten homes in North Saanich and one home in Central Saanich. One hundred percent of the funds raised will go directly to building these homes! Recent events have highlighted just how important a safe and stable home can be. The uncertainty we have all experienced this year is the ongoing reality for many families struggling with housing instability. Habitat for Humanity's partner families work hard to provide for their children, but struggle to provide safe, stable housing for them. They are drivers, caregivers, lab technicians, construction workers, educators and more. Many provide the essential services we all rely on in our local community. With your donation, you are giving them a hand-up into an affordable home to call their own, and helping them achieve a stable future that will benefit their children and strengthen our local community for years to come.

Royal BC Museum: Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition

June 19 - September 7

For a limited time, experience the wonders of nature through the lenses of award-winning photographers from around the world. Now in its 55th year, the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition showcases a global selection of outstanding nature photography. Each photo is presented in a huge backlit display with a caption exploring the image’s compelling story. Travelling from London’s Natural History Museum, this exhibition takes viewers on a visual journey around the world, bringing the talent and vision of each photographer closer to all who visit. The images evoke a wide range of emotions but are always visually stunning and thought-provoking. A family favourite.

All aspects of the show are online, as well as the main gallery with 375 pieces of original Island art, there is a youth art gallery, an Artz4Kidz event page, artist demonstration videos, live talks with artists, music from past performers, an auction, a Seniors' Tea Zoom gathering, and the People's Choice Award. Don't miss the Purchasers' Preview Event, similar to other years, with special access the night before (from 7-10pm, July 23). Purchase a special access entry for $25 from their website. Two local caterers (4Beaches in Sooke and Truffles Catering in Greater Victoria) have created "grazing boxes" for purchase and pick up/delivery ahead of the opening. We are encouraging people to dress up, grab their favourite bottle of wine, open their grazing box, and view the artworks online! They are also encouraging people to share pictures of their home-style Purchasers' Preview Event with them. The Artist Celebration Event will be live-streamed on Saturday, July 25 at 2:00pm to announce the award winners for this year's show.
