It feels like the end of summer this morning, but there is some warmer and sunnier weather not too far off. A weak upper ridge will build in over the coming days and that should boost afternoon temperatures into the low to mid 20s this weekend. That same temperature range should hold throughout next week. As for the shorter term outlook... it’ll be another cool and cloudy day in the Edmonton region with some occasional showers. Temperatures will top out around 17 C (and handful of degrees below average). There’s a slight risk of a few non-severe thunderstorms in the area Thursday afternoon. Regions of north of Edmonton may also see a few funnel clouds later in the day, although the risk of a tornado is extremely low. The chance for showers (and perhaps some periods of steadier rain) continues Thursday night and into early Friday morning. Heavier, steadier rain continues to fall in southern Alberta and that system will work it’s way north into east-central Alberta Thursday night/Friday. Edmonton will be way out on the northwestern edge of that potential precipitation. Skies should start clearing Friday afternoon and we’re looking at “mainly sunny” to “partly cloudy” skies for the weekend across much of central and north-central Alberta. That said, there’s a risk of some scattered thunderstorms bubbling up in western Alberta Saturday afternoon and that’ll bring a slight risk of a shower or thunderstorm to the Edmonton region late Saturday night.
