Temperatures will climb into the mid 20s once again in Edmonton this afternoon with mostly sunny skies. We’ll probably see a few clouds move through the area late this morning, but nothing too significant. Wind will pick up midday and this afternoon with gusts near 30 km/h. A few showers are expected in parts of northeast Alberta Wednesday, but the Edmonton area should remain dry. There’s also some wildfire smoke from the Northwest Territories set to move into northern Alberta for Wednesday-Friday. That smoke should stay well north of the Edmonton region, but could push as far south as the Bonnyville/Lloydminster regions later in the week. It’s a fairly benign forecast for the next few days in Edmonton and surrounding regions, except for Thursday afternoon/evening. We’re expecting some showers and thunderstorms to develop over northwest Alberta Thursday morning/midday. There’s a front that’ll push southeast across the province through the day Thursday and that’ll bring a chance of some scattered showers and thunderstorms to north-central and central Alberta Thursday afternoon/evening. The timing for Edmonton is a little uncertain. But, it looks like if we’re going to see anything develop over the city, it’ll be in the 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. window. The Red Deer area and east-central Alberta get a chance for some storms in the early to mid evening hours Thursday. Skies will clear for Friday/Saturday and the heat really starts to ramp up as we head into the weekend. Friday should top out in the 26 C to 28 C range and Saturday has a chance to hit 30 C. Looking further ahead: We get a risk of some late-day showers for both Sunday and Monday. Daytime highs are expected to be into the low to mid 20s for next week in Edmonton.
