Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a tornado watch for portions of east-central Alberta, including areas from Lloydminster west to Innisfree and north through the St Paul and Bonnyville areas. A funnel cloud advisory is in effect for a larger region that includes the City of Edmonton (the area in grey on the map). While the risk of a tornado remains low across most of the area under the alerts, a few funnel clouds in the Elk Point region have reportedly been close to the ground. That has prompted the tornado watch as it is possible one or more of the funnel clouds in east-central Alberta could become a weak landspout tornado. Reminder: a watch means “potential,” a warning means “imminent or occurring.”
