Sunny skies in Edmonton today as the warming trend continues

Better late than never. It’s been a month dominated by cooler-than-average temperatures.

Going into today, only six days have been warmer than average.

If you look at double-digit daytime highs, we’ll end the month with 11 days with highs 10 C or warmer.

That’s the fewest (in April) since 2017... when Edmonton had just 10 double-digit daytime highs.

BUT...that’s all behind us now.

We’ll close out the month with two above-average days today and Thursday and May will start with a lengthy string of days above the average high of 15 C.

Temperatures climb to the 16 or 17 C range this afternoon under sunny skies and we’ll be sunny and up around 21 C Thursday.

Forecast highs for Friday-Monday are in the 17 to 22 C range with Thursday and Sunday likely being the warmest days.

The upper ridge over western Canada will hang around for a while. But...we’ll see a couple ripples in that ridge Friday and early next week.

That won’t cool things off much, but it’ll give us some extra cloudcover for Friday and some scattered late-day showers in central and northern Alberta.

There’s also a chance of some showers Tuesday of next week.
