The sale of the historic Connaught Armoury building in Edmonton’s Old Strathcona is currently pending. The City of Edmonton began accepting offers on the two-storey building and the 2,230 square metres of land it is built on in spring 2025 for $2.5 million. Information about the potential buyer is currently unknown. The building is currently zoned for multi-unit housing, education as well as some commercial uses. Built in 1911, the Connaught is the oldest extant armoury building in Alberta. It was designated a municipal historic resource in 2007 and a provincial resource in 1979. A municipal historic resource designation protects historically significant buildings and areas from demolition. Any development by a buyer is required to be approved by both the city and province due to the dual historic designation.
