Oil Kings to play 2 pre-season games in Tumbler Ridge

The Edmonton Oil Kings will play twice in Tumbler Ridge, B.C., the town where a deadly shooting took place in February, on Sept. 4 and Sept. 6.

Top junior hockey stars from the Western Hockey League will converge on the northeastern British Columbia community that was the site of a deadly school shooting this past February.

The Edmonton Oil Kings announced their four-game schedule for the pre-season. The Oil Kings will open with the Prince George Cougars at the Tumbler Ridge Community Centre in September.

This will mark the first-ever major junior games in the community. The District of Tumbler Ridge plans to back the games in support of Tumbler Ridge minor hockey, figure skating, curling association and the Old Timers Hockey Club.

The Oil Kings play the Cougars Friday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 6 at 12 p.m.

Tumbler Ridge is about 700 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
