Notorious B.C. gangster Jamie Bacon to be released in Edmonton

Jamie Bacon, the notorious B.C. gangster who masterminded the Surrey Six killings in 2007 has been released from prison and will be living in Edmonton.

The gangster behind the Surrey Six killings in 2007 will live in Edmonton less than six years after he was given an 18-year sentence.

Jamie Bacon was released with conditions and a curfew after completing his federal prison sentence, confirmed B.C.’s Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU-BC).

“CFSEU-BC is aware that Jamie Bacon was released on a Peace Bond under Section 810 of the Criminal Code,” said the anti-gang agency in an email Wednesday. “He will be monitored by the Provincial Corrections as well as the local police in Edmonton.”

CTV News Edmonton has reached out to the Edmonton Police Service for comment.

Bacon was sentenced to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty in 2020 to one count of conspiracy to murder Corey Lal in the Surrey Six case. He served five years and seven months behind bars with credit for time served while awaiting trial.

Four of the victims in the Surrey Six case were targeted in the attack at the highrise residential building.

Bystanders Christopher Mohan, who lived on the floor of the killings, and Ed Schellenberg, a maintenance worker, were also killed.

Bacon also pleaded guilty to one count of counselling to commit murder in a separate case involving the non-fatal shooting of a man on New Year’s Eve in 2008. The former Red Scorpion leader saw a 10-year sentence that was to be served in tandem to the Surrey Six sentence.

He and his two brothers were associated with the rise of the Red Scorpions gang during the apex of the Metro Vancouver gang conflicts in the aughts.
