Man found dead in greenspace died of gunshot wounds, death declared homicide

The man who died in north Edmonton earlier this week has been identified as Mohammed Omar, 26.

The Edmonton Police Service released his identity after the medical examiner determined he died of gunshot wounds and his death is a homicide.

Omar’s body was found in a green space in the area of 125 Street and 130 Avenue around 9:20 p.m. on Monday.

Police are still looking for doorbell or dashcam video from the area, and have extended the call for footage from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. the same day, in the area of 97 Street/Highway 28 to Highway 37, and in the areas of Range Roads 244, 551, 551A and 250.

Investigators are specifically looking for footage that might include a grey 2017 Mazda CX-5, travelling on its own or with another vehicle.
