87 Ave. reducing to single lane for the rest of 2026 for LRT construction

LRT construction will have “significant traffic impacts” in west Edmonton for the rest of the year, the City of Edmonton announced on Friday.

It begins all around West Edmonton Mall, with lane reductions at the intersection of 178 Street and 87 Avenue next week and 170 Street and 87 Avenue the week after.

That, and 87 Avenue being reduced to one lane, will last for the rest of 2026. The lane reductions on 87 Avenue start on Monday and will happen in stages, the city said.

“The City and Marigold Infrastructure Partners (MIP) understand this work is disruptive,” the city said in a release.

“The goal is to complete most of the roadwork in the area by the end of 2026, bringing it closer to its final permanent traffic configuration. We appreciate Edmontonians’ ongoing patience and understanding as this transformational project is built.”
