Generational noodle restaurant to sell their secret to success

After 30 years in business, the owners of King Noodle House have put the business up for sale, along with its secret pho recipe.

The owners of a noodle restaurant in Chinatown are moving on after 30 years in business, but not before they pass on their famous – and very secret – pho recipe.

Tan Hoang is the owner of King Noodle House on 10613 97 St NW. Both the location and one-on-one training in how to maintain the restaurant’s legacy are for sale.

Hoang’s family-owned pho recipe has spanned three generations and survived moves from Northern Vietnam to Southern Vietnam, then all the way to Canada since the 1980s.

The broth, he says, is behind the business’s success.

Hoang’s daughter, Linda, said whoever buys the restaurant will be taught that success.

“With multi-generational family businesses, basically, you always have this conversation, ‘Are the children going to take over?’” she told CTV News Edmonton.

“And for us, the timing is just not right. But we also want our parents to rest.”

The Hoangs hope the recipe falls into the right hands and is passed on generation to generation by another family.
