Townhouse fire kills 1 dog, cause still under investigation

Edmonton Fire says a townhouse unit is a total loss after a fire Wednesday. All residents were able to evacuate safely without injury.

A dog died as a result of a fire at a townhouse complex in northwest Edmonton on Wednesday.

The first two crews arrived at the fire at 141 Avenue and 121 Street at 11:05 a.m.

According to Edmonton Fire Rescue Services, an additional eight crews were called to help fight the fire and were still working to get it under control as of noon on Wednesday.

No human injuries were reported, but Heather Johns of Beagles Plus Dog Rescue Society says a dog that had been adopted out of the rescue was killed in the fire, and a second Beagle was taken into foster care as a result of damage to one of the homes.

Fire investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire.
