Get set for some inconsistency to the temperature pattern in the days ahead.
It doesn’t look like we’ll get any arctic air pushing in, but daytime highs will fluctuate between the high single digits and the mid-to-upper teens over the next seven to 10 days in Edmonton.
We’re on the warmer end of that scale today. After a weekend that had highs of 11 C both Saturday and Sunday, we’ll jump back to the 16/17 degree range this afternoon.
An Upper Ridge has re-developed and we’ll get a kick of some warmer air ahead of a surface low pressure system set to move into NW Alberta by early Tuesday morning.
That area of low pressure will bring some showers to NW Alberta tonight.
There’s a slight risk of a spotty shower in the Edmonton area late this evening, but it looks like most (probably all) of that precip will fizzle out before hitting the city.
Showers ARE expected in NE Alberta Tuesday morning, with some wet flurries back in the High Level region.
As cooler air starts to get drawn in on the backside of that low pressure system, we’ll see some showers develop along the cold front in central Alberta. Most of that rain looks like it’ll be south of Edmonton, but that’s a chance of some late-day showers in the city Tuesday.
An Upper Trough moves slide through late Tuesday/Wednesday, bringing cold enough air aloft to produce snow in the Fort McMurray region by Wednesday morning and we’ll probably see some snow from around Jasper SE through the Rocky Mountain House/Red Deer area early Wednesday.
The flurries in NE Alberta will push south and become more scattered in nature Wednesday afternoon. There’s a good chance of some wet flurries in areas from Lloydminster north through Bonnyville.
But, it’s just a slight risk of wet flurries or a rain/snow mix late Wednesday in the Edmonton region.
Despite the fact that we have a chance of precipitation tonight, late Tuesday AND late Wednesday, no significant amounts of moisture are expected in Edmonton and area.
Daytime highs will slip back to 9/10 C for Wednesday/Thursday.
BUT...another Upper Ridge brings back some warmer air to close the weekend and we’ll head into the weekend with highs near 15 C Friday/Saturday.
Looking LONG range - another short cooldown will start either Sunday or Monday, with daytime highs slipping back to the 10 degree range.
