Cloudy, light snow and a cool spell

Meteorological spring is upon us, and we’re in for some spring swings in temperature this week.

(Astronomical spring, when the sun’s most direct rays cross over the equator, doesn’t start until March 20, but meteorological seasons start at the beginning of months.)

After temperatures soared to 6 C on Sunday, we have some cooler air settling in for the next few days.

Daytime highs won’t get back above 0 C until Thursday-Saturday.

Today, we’ll top out around -3 C this evening and then highs will be in the -8 C range for Tuesday/Wednesday.

Tuesday will probably be the coldest day of the week, especially with wind chill.

Northeasterlies at 15 km/h gusting to 30 km/h will give us wind chills in the -15 to -20 range.

We have a front lying across north-central Alberta and we’re getting some flurries/light snow along that front.

For Edmonton and surrounding areas, accumulation should be in the 1-3 cm today and another 1-3cm is possible Tuesday/Wednesday.

So, it won’t all fall in one heavy dump, but persitent precipitation over the next few days will give us a bit more snow cover.

Further northwest, heavier snow is expected in parts of the Peace Country with the potential for 10-15 cm in a few spots.
