Alison Wonderland, Disclosure, deadmau5 to take the stage for Igloofest in Edmonton this week

For the first time ever, Igloofest will rock Edmonton this weekend, with deadmau5 closing out the festival on Saturday night.

For the first time ever, the Montreal trance and rave festival Igloofest will be held outside Quebec, with performers taking to the stage in Edmonton starting Thursday.

Alison Wonderland will kick off the first night of the festival at Ice District’s Fan Park, with the UK duo Disclosure headlining Friday night and Canada’s own deadmau5 and TDJ closing out the festival on Saturday night.

The Oilers Entertainment Group (OEG) says 15,000 people are expected for the festival.

“We’re going to celebrate winter. We’re going to celebrate the weather. We’re going to get the biggest outdoor winter music festival in Canada to come right here to Edmonton,” Ryan Kruger of OEG said.

“Igloofest is about celebrating the weather and the winter and being outside, and it doesn’t matter what the temperature is.”

Local DJ Mikey Wong says having this kind of an event in Edmonton is a dream come true.

“A lot of places don’t get the chance to have such big shows like this, and we’ve had a chance to have a few,” he said on Wednesday.

“It means a lot, I think, to the city, the music industry here, and all the DJs and artists that are into this music, just motivating for everybody to keep pushing.”
