Dean Murdock elected Saanich mayor

Voters in Saanich, B.C., have elected Dean Murdock as the district's new mayor.

Murdock defeated incumbent mayor Fred Haynes on Saturday, ending his one-term reign in Vancouver Island's largest municipality by population.

Murdock is a former three-term Saanich councillor and Capital Regional District director.

He had garnered 50.3 per cent of the vote (13,631 votes), besting Haynes, who had 49.7 per cent of the vote (13,479 votes).

Saanich's eight councillors are:

  • Colin Plant 16,324 votes (9%)
  • Susan Brice 15,355 votes (8.5%)
  • Zac de Vries 14,274 votes (7.9%)
  • Judy Brownoff 11,845 votes (6.5%)
  • Mena Westhaver 11,459 votes (6.3%)
  • Nathalie Chambers 10,633 votes (5.9%)
  • Karen Harper 10,436 votes (5.8%)
  • Teale Phelps Bondaroff 9,218 votes (5.1%)
