The tunnel along Airport Trail in northeast Calgary is now closed for the duration of the G7 Leaders’ Summit. The tunnel closed early Sunday morning and will remain closed until Wednesday. It’s all part of the extra security measures in place as G7 leaders and their delegations arrive and depart from the airport. The city says travellers heading to the airport from the east side should use Country Hills Boulevard to Barlow Trail as an alternate route. Airport Trail will remain open from Deerfoot Trail to Barlow. The off-ramp from 19th Street N.E. to eastbound Airport Trail is also closed. No stopping or parking around the perimeter of the airport property will be permitted until Wednesday. And the north end of McCall Way will be restricted to employee and business traffic only, with a security checkpoint in place. Police say to leave plenty of extra time if you are heading to the airport for a flight.
