Ben Labrosse was drafted in the first round, fourth overall by the Stampeders in the 2024 CFL entry draft. After going without an interception in his first two years, Labrosse is making up for it this season. The 26-year-old says he’s feeling it after getting three picks against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on July 24 and adding another pair against the Toronto Argonauts on Aug. 6. “I feel good,” Labrosse said. “I feel like I get to show the true me. But overall, I feel good and I feel good about our defence too, so it’s a good feeling.” “I knew it was coming and I think the people around me knew it was coming too. I think the coaches even knew it was coming. I guess it just took time.” Healthy After a solid first season with the Stamps, Labrosse ran into injury problems last year, when an ankle injury and operation caused him to miss 10 games. This season he says he’s back to full health and is enjoying the opportunity to start as a cornerback. “It’s a long season and after every game I make sure that I get assessed on whatever is bugging me. But so far, I’ve been lucky and I’ve been putting in the work to stay healthy.” ‘Ball hawk’ Stamps Head Coach and General Manager Dave Dickenson says this is exactly what the team was hoping to see from Labrosse. “He’s a ball hawk,” Dickenson said. “He makes great athletic plays, those kind of plays we were hoping as a draft pick.” “He’s certainly been a big part of the defence and the success the last three weeks.” Expecting even more Labrosse thinks he has even more to give. “It’s just going to come with time where I’ll be able to recognize routes faster and just play without thinking,” he said. “You know (to) be quick out there and that will just come with time and wisdom.” As a defensive back, Labrosse says there’s no better feeling than making an interception like the one he made against the Argos on the sideline. That fired up his teammates. “It feels good,” he said. “They love it and they were all loving on me after that interception so it definitely feels good.” Labrosse and the Stamps will face off against the B.C. Lions Thursday night at McMahon Stadium. Kickoff is a little after 7 p.m.
